AIM Members Deliver Remarks at SPESA Meeting

From AIM BusinessWeekly – The Newsletter for Massachusetts Employers:

Two AIM members – 99 Degrees Custom and New Balance – along with AIM Vice President of Government Affairs Vasundhra Sangar, delivered remarks at the Sewn Products Equipment & Suppliers of the Americas (SPESA) Executive Conference last week.

Brenna N. Schneider, Founder & CEO of AIM member 99 Degrees Custom in Lawrence, spoke about her company’s commitment to bringing about inclusive economic opportunity through the creation of pathways to well-paying, quality jobs in Lawrence. She detailed 99 Degrees’ explosive growth, noting that the company was on track to reach 500 employees, which equates to a 1 percent drop in Lawrence’s unemployment rate.

Ms. Schneider was bullish in her assessment of the Commonwealth’s capacity to compete globally in the sewn products manufacturing space however, she did warn that this would be contingent upon having an effective workforce development system that leverages Massachusetts’ unique ecosystem.

Kevin McCoy, Vice President Made- Manufacturing, Engineering, R&D, Product and Innovation, New Balance, observed that "there is a romance about this industry that has been lost" and that companies must continue to boost productivity.
